The African Art Museum of Maryland is dedicated to collecting, exhibiting and preserving for the public the art of Africa. The Museum is further dedicated to increasing the awareness of African art and culture while encouraging a broader understanding and deeper appreciation of the diverse art and culture of the continent of Africa.

The Museum offers a range of experiences to include exhibits, in-museum and outreach events with video presentations (The African Experience Tour), lectures, films, youth and adult workshops, academic courses, dance and music performances, visiting scholars, lectures and school and community outreach programs. African art exhibited by the Museum include masks, sculptured figures, textiles, baskets, jewelry, household items and musical instruments.
