Trenton City Museum
Trenton, NJ
Nestled in idyllic Cadwalader Park in Trenton, NJ, Ellarslie Mansion—an Italianate, Victorian villa-- built in 1848 as a summer residence for notable Philadelphia Industrialist, Henry McCall.

The City of Trenton purchased Ellarslie in 1888, and in 1892 Frederick Law Olmsted, was consigned to landscape the 100-plus acres to be named Cadwalader Park.

Since, the home endured many alterations in the mid 20th Century and had a brief life as a monkey house for a zoo. In 1978, Historic Ellarslie Mansion opened to the public as The Trenton City Museum.

The Museum became home to an extensive permanent collection of Trenton Pottery, and now, is also the premier Trenton destination to view contemporary art of the region.

Supported, in part, by The Trenton Museum Society, the City Museum is also a vibrant community cultural center. The Museum Society is instrumental in the acquisition and conservation of the permanent galleries and provides weekly art and educational classes.
