Illinois Heritage Association
The Illinois Heritage Association is a statewide, nonprofit, tax-exempt organization that offers technical assistance to museums, historical societies, libraries, park districts and forest preserve districts, townships, archaeologists, historic preservationists, genealogists, teachers, and others who are interested in preserving the cultural heritage of our state from the broadest perspective.
The IHA establishes networks with organizations that share common concerns for the future of the material culture and the built and natural environments of Illinois. The IHA issues a bimonthly newsletter, with a technical insert that addresses a variety of topics, from local history to volunteerism. The IHA also issues a monthly electronic newsletter to members with information about online educational resources.
The IHA’s extensive circulating library is available for members to use. It contains nearly 1,500 books about local history, material culture, educational programs, historic preservation, exhibit planning, artifact care, and more. Over 350 topical folders in the IHA vertical files contain information about current issues of concern to library and museum personnel, personnel of local history governments, teachers, preservationists, naturalists, and genealogists.
Telephone and on-site consultations are other IHA services. The IHA can offer assistance with planning, fund-raising and development, board development, collections management and care, and exhibit planning. Another member service is the sale of archival products.
