Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art
Chicago, IL

Intuit is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1991.

Our mission is to promote public awareness, understanding, and appreciation of intuitive and outsider art through a program of education and exhibition. Toward this end, Intuit strives to discover, document, maintain, preserve, exhibit, and collect examples of intuitive and outsider art; and to operate a permanent facility in which to pursue such activities.

Intuit defines "intuitive and outsider art" as work of artists who demonstrate little influence from the mainstream art world and who seem instead motivated by their unique personal visions. This includes what is known as art brut, non-traditional folk art, self-taught art, and visionary art.

Your donations help:
Your Donation Supports Education Outreach: Teacher Fellowship Program You can make a difference in the lives of young people who do not have access to the visual arts.

Through our award-winning Teacher Fellowship Program, each year we provide in-depth instructional training and access to our extensive resource materials for ten teachers from five Chicago Public Schools. Through lectures, visits with outsider artists, tours of outsider art collections and environments, and access to our Study Center, teachers learn how to integrate intuitive and outsider art into their curriculum.

These teachers work with approximately 1,000 students during the school year. The program culminates with an exhibition that showcases the work that their students create and their parents are invited to attend the exhibit opening. For many students (and parents!), this is their first experience in an art gallery.

This program is in such demand that each year we have a waiting list of teachers who want to participate in the program. As we head into 2007, I?m writing to ask you to consider a special gift to support the Teacher Fellowship Program. Your gift will allow us to continue and expand the program to accommodate additional teachers and serve more students.

There are many ways you can get involved.
