University of Michigan Museum of Art
Ann Arbor, MI
The University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) is considered one of the finest university art museums in the nation, with more than 18,000 works of art representing 150 years of art collecting. Particular strengths of the collections include its Western, Asian, and African holdings. A dynamic schedule of special exhibitions and interpretative programs connects visitors with the rich artistic legacy of the past and today’s avant-garde.
In 2006 UMMA broke ground on a landmark expansion and restoration project that will more than double the size of its historic Beaux-Arts home. While under construction the Museum is operating a temporary exhibition space devoted to photography, film, and video, as well as offering public programs and tours. The gloriously reimagined UMMA will reopen in early 2009.
